Original 1946 Dated RAF War Service Dress Blouse - Size 6

An original size Royal Air Force War Service Dress battledress dated 1946 and a size 6. 

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle often found on these blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps, black plastic buttons throughout and a pronounced, spearpoint shaped collar which is a notable feature of this manufacturer. The original owner has had two pieces of RAF blue-grey coloured serge wool fitted to the opening of the jacket below the collar to make the jacket look more smart. This was a fairly common modification from 1944 onwards. Whilst the jacket is dated 1946 it is identical to those made and issued during WW2.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is still clearly legible. The size is stated as 6 which is designed to fit up to a 39" chest and a 34" waist. The War Department broad arrow is also present as is the 1946 date and the maker's name of 'Akett Ltd'.

When laid flat the jacket measures - 

Chest - 22 1/2"
Waist - 16"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 21"

The condition of the blouse is good with signs of previous wear and use. It displays well and is totally wearable with no serious flaws or damage. It is a vintage pre-owned item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

Overall this is a nice original RAF WSD blouse in good condition with a nice clear label.
