    About this item

A reproduction Royal Air Force Irvin Flying jacket made by the prestigious maker 'Eastman Leather'.

Eastman's jacket's have been considered the best and most authentic reproduction flying jackets by many for over 2 decades. The attention to detail makes an Eastman jacket the best substitute for an original and are ideal for someone who wants to wear an irvin regularly.

This example is the Eastman 'RAF 1940 Pattern Battle of Britain Model' which is essentially an early war, Battle of Britain period design. The most notable attribute of the early pattern of jacket is the single seam rear and lack of any other additional panels. This was changed in the period following the Battle of Britain to economise on materials making this early pattern the most iconic of all due to its affiliation with the early war period. They were of course also worn throughout the rest of the war.

The jacket is made from a lovely deep chestnut coloured leather which is still in excellent condition with all of its chrome finish intact. It is still soft and pliable and all the band is also in fine condition with all the stitching appearing to be strong. The waist belt is also still present and is again in excellent condition and a faithful reproduction of the original with a chromium plated buckle. All the zips are the original 'Eastman' branded brass examples and function well. All the pullers feature the Lightning style graphics along with the 'Eastman' brand name. The main zipper features the correct large stop box which is retained with two brass rivets, as per the originals. Metal grommets which act as vent holes are fitted under the arm, again in a faithful reproduction of original jackets. The collar features a black elastic collar strap to the rear as per original early war spec jackets.

The interior of the jacket is sheepskin throughout which is a lovely strong biscuit colour. There is an area missing to the rear panel and both sleeves have small areas of missing fur, all of which are illustrated in the pictures. These are most likely caused by insects but the jacket has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected for any further damage. There is a metal hanging chain at the neck and below this is the Eastman label which bears the maker's name and the size of 46.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

    Chest - 26 1/2"
    Inside arm - 22 1/2"
    Outside arm - 26"
    Shoulders - 22"
    Length at rear - 26"

The jacket is in excellent condition overall and is ready to wear. It is still very fresh on the whole as is evident in the pictures. It has been well cared for and has no serious flaws aside from a couple of very small areas where the chrome finish to the leather is missing. This is illustrated in the pictures. Any other small flaws have already been described but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a pre-owned jacket which has some small flaws commensurate with age.

A faithful reproduction of the iconic RAF flying jacket which is ready to be worn and enjoyed!
