About this item

A good original early Second World War Irvin Flying Jacket which was made by 'Wareings'. This is an early example which dates from approximately 1941.

This jacket is of 'multi panel' construction which is typical of the examples made in the early mid war period before jackets were produced with even more panels. All of the interior panels are the short teddy bear style fur which is often associated with early jackets. The jacket retains all original zips which are all 'Lightning' branded examples as are often found on WW2 manufactured jackets. All the zips work well and the main zipper retains its original leather puller. The sleeve ones are often removed as they can be irritating. The original waist belt is also present and features a nickel plated buckle. Metal eyelets are fitted as vents to each armpit and there are two metal loops under the collar which fasten the collar strap. The collar is a 'Wareings' made example which is notable by its shape and features the two ends of the elastic strap still. With a piece of black elastic, the collar strap could easily be reinstated.

The jacket is a medium size which will suit up to a 42" chest depending on desired fit. When studying the measurements it is important to remember that the jacket is made of thick sheepskin which needs to be accounted for. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 23"
Outside arm - 26"
Shoulders - 20 1/2"
Length - 25 1/2"

The jacket is in good, wearable condition overall and it displays well. It does however have various signs of wear, repairs and some other small flaws. There is a repair patch to the rear of the right shoulder (picture 23) and there is a limited amount of pulled stitching to the right armpit (picture 22). There is also a very small hole in the same area as illustrated in picture 24. There is a small repair to the front left shoulder (picture 7) and a couple of eyelets are missing their caps including on the belt. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A good early war jacket which has had use in its life but appears sound and is a harder to find, larger size.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
