About this item
A wartime RAF Officer’s Service Dress Tunic to a Flight Lieutenant Observer.
During 1943, the decision was taken by the Air Ministry to raise an order for members of the RAFVR to remove the brass and cloth 'VR's worn on the collars and shoulders of officers and other ranks, as these were viewed as being divisive, clearly dating this Tunic to no later than 1943.
Probably an issue piece given the lack of a tailor’s label, the Tunic is a good size with a chest measurement of approximately, 39”.
Constructed in the standard pattern, each sleeve carries the rank rings whilst a very nice, padded Observer Wing is hand applied above the left breast pocket, below which is evidence of a strip of medal ribbons having been once present.
Overall condition is very good with no moth that I can find.
