About this item
WW2 RAF 1941 PATTERN SIDCOT FLYING SUIT. A nice used example of the 1941 pattern Sidcot flying suit, as worn by pilots and aircrew. This suit, being the 1941 pattern Sidcot, it has accommodation for electrically heated gloves and bootees. It is a simple flying suit that would have been worn over service dress, and also worn often with a quilted liner.
This example is in overall good used condition. It's not too bad and displays well; it also looks better than the photos suggest. The green material of the suit is in good condition. Without any major damage, the only issue we can see is a few areas of abrasion; the material is not damaged, but there are several areas like this. Furthermore some light soiling and fading, but nothing too bad. The main zip is working, but could do with some gentle lubrication. Marked to the puller with an A.M. crown mark.
The rest of the suit's zips are somewhat in worse condition, with the two ankle zips both being damaged; these zips have been sewn up and, as such are closed. This would not be too noticeable if the suit was displayed on a mannequin with a set of boots. Again, both wrist and pocket zips suffer from some oxidation and are currently closed. All pullers are marked with an A.M. crown mark. With the zip issues in mind, we have priced the suit accordingly. Regardless, the suit still displays well, and considering its age its really not too bad. We've seen alot worse suits with completely ruined zips before. On the reverse, we find the adjustable belt once again in good condition without issue. Inside, we find the suit has its label, marked as a size 2 with details just below.
Overall, not a bad example of this WW2 RAF flying suit. Suitable for a RAF collection, museum display, or reenactor.
