About this item
Original WWII Royal Air Force 1941 Pattern Sidcot flying suit, complete with its detachable sheepskin collar.
A very attractive and honest period example of the classic RAF Sidcot flying suit, constructed in olive/khaki cotton fabric with the characteristic multiple zipped openings, large thigh pockets and flying-suit configuration.
The original label is still present and identifies it as a 1941 Pattern Sidcot Suit, with wartime-style Air Ministry / War Department markings and size details.
The inside collar area carries further period-style inspection and stores markings, including 22C/353, together with additional ink stamps and a handwritten or inked name/marking. It is not known when the name was added or whether it relates to the wartime wearer. These markings are largely hidden when the detachable sheepskin collar is fitted.
The detachable brown sheepskin collar is present and displays very well.
Overall the suit is in very good original condition for its age, with expected service wear, marks and light staining.
Please note:
The main front zip is missing its slider/pull, although the zip teeth appear to remain in good condition with no obvious teeth missing.
The remaining zips are functioning.
The detachable sheepskin collar is present.
There are various period ink and inspection markings to the collar/inside area.
General age-related wear and marks are present, consistent with a genuine wartime flying suit.
A very displayable and increasingly difficult-to-find example of an original RAF 1941 Pattern Sidcot flying suit, one of the most recognisable items of British aircrew clothing from the Second World War.
Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
