    About this item

An attractive solid silver presentation quaich in the Arts and Crafts style, with presentation inscription.

The presentation inscription reads "George Booth 9th March 1912 From Lt Col F.H. Neish Gordon Highlanders"

London Silver Hallmarks for 1905. Produced by Stokes & Ireland Ltd

Interestingly there seems to have been an earlier inscription, which has been removed, bar two letters. Given the disparity between the production date and the inscription date, it seems likely that this quaich was purchased second hand an represented-recycling at its finest!

Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Hugh Neish (1863–1946), KBE was the commanding officer of the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders on thier mobilisation in 1914. He was captured along with 500 other Gordon Highlanders on the 27th of August 1914.
