Rare Early Post WW2 Civil Defence Corps MKIII Rescue Unit Helmet 1952

For sale is a Rare Early Post WW2 Civil Defence Corps MKIII Rescue Helmet 1952 Dated. All Mk. III helmets would have been issued to the military during 1944/45. This most likely got repainted and reissued from stores to a CDC rescue unit. The MKII helmet liner is marked CCL III 1952, and the helmet is stamped CHZ 1952. The helmet is in good condition, the liner is also in good condition apart from the centre pad tab is damage but still attached, the helmet chin strap is also present. 

  The Civil Defence Service was a civilian volunteer organisation in Great Britain during World War II. Established by the Home Office in 1935 as Air Raid Precautions (ARP), its name was officially changed to the Civil Defence Service (CD) in 1941. The Civil Defence Service included the ARP Wardens Service as well as firemen (initially the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) and latterly the National Fire Service (NFS)), fire watchers (later the Fire Guard), rescue, first aid post and stretcher parties. Over 1.9 million people served within the CD and nearly 2,400 lost their lives to enemy action.   Rescue Parties were required to assess and then access buildings damaged during air raids and retrieve injured or deadpeople. In addition they would turn off gas, electricity and water supplies, and repair or pull down unsteady buildings.   The Civil Defence Service was disbanded on 2 May 1945. On 10 June 1945, before His Majesty King George VI, a farewell parade with representatives of all the Civil Defence Services from across Great Britain took place in Hyde Park, London. Many of the duties of the service were later revived as part of the Civil Defence Corps in 1949.   The Civil Defence Corps (CDC) was a civilian volunteer organisation established in Great Britain in 1949 to mobilise and take local control of the affected area in the aftermath of a major national emergency, principally envisaged as being a Cold War nuclearattack. By March 1956, the Civil Defence Corps had 330,000 personnel. It was stood down in Great Britain in 1968, although two Civil Defence Corps still operate within the British Isles, namely the Isle of Man Civil Defence Corps and the unrelated Civil Defence Ireland in the Republic of Ireland. Many other countries maintain a national Civil Defence Corps, usually having a wide brief for assisting in large scale civil emergencies such as flood, earthquake, invasion, or civil disorder.   This is a rare helmet, with most civil defence helmets being zuckermans and MKII helmets, very rarely do MKIII civil defence helmets come up for sale.    This will be sent via Royal Mail special delivery and dispatched within two working days.
