About this item
This shirt is typical of those made for British officers in the Royal Air Force, British Army and Royal Navy during the Second World War. It is made from cellular cotton (often referred to as 'aertex') which is a lightweight, breathable fabric which is ideally suited for wear in hot climates. This example is clearly a theatre made item which has been at the original owners expense. The shirt looks to have been modelled on the American issue shirts of the period which were popular with British servicemen. The plain patch pockets, pocket flap shape and fully buttoning front are all typical features of US shirts.
Inside the shirt the only visible marking is that of the number 6 which may relate to size.
The shirt is a hard to find larger size which will fit around a 42-44" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 23"
Length - 33"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Collar - 16"
The shirt is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures with only limited signs of wear and age. It is a vintage item however so may have small issues commensurate with age.
A fantastic original shirt, typical of those worn by officers during the Second World War and in a hard to find larger size!
