About this item
An original 1940s Swedish military half-placket work shirt which is in good condition.
This pattern of shirt was issued to the Swedish armed forces as a work shirt and is typical of the simple and functional military garments produced in Sweden during the period.
Constructed from a dark blue coloured cotton twill fabric which is typical of workwear items from the mid Century period, the shirt is of half-placket design which was prevalent in the first half of the 20th Century. It features a stand and fall collar which has a 'spearpoint' shape which was highly popular in the 1940s and helps to date the shirt to this decade. Two large patch pockets are fitted to the front, each secured with an original metal dish button. More of these are used to fasten the front and the cuffs. The cuffs feature a pointed stitch detail which is typically found on workwear during this period. There is evidence of where the original paper tag was previously fitted to the neck.
The shirt is a smaller size which will suit a around a 36" - 38" chest and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 20"
Length at rear - 25 1/2"
Collar - 16 1/2"
The shirt is in good condition for its age with only very limited signs of wear and use. Overall it displays very well and is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item that has some flaws commensurate with age.
A great piece of utilitarian design from the 1940s!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
