About this item
An original RAF officer's shirt in good condition which was made by 'Mentor' during the late 1940s or early 1950s.
This pattern of shirt was worn by RAF officers for many years. It is the full buttoning front style which began to come into use during the Second World War before eventually replacing the half-placket style completely by the 1960s. This example features a neckband collar to which a detachable collar can be fitted. The cuffs are French style which fold back on themselves and are worn with cufflinks.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is still very clear and bright stating the maker's name as 'Mentor' which is followed by the words 'A Product of Britain'. The graphics used are the same as seen on 1940s CC41 shirts which may suggest that this is a 1940s shirt, rather than 1950s.
The shirt is a small size which will fit up to a 38" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 25 1.2" (detract 2 3/4" from this if worn with cufflinks)
Outside arm - 27" (detract 2 3/4" from this if worn with cufflinks)
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 36"
Collar - 15 1/2"
The shirt is in good condition but does have some limited signs of wear and use. There is a small repair to the rear as illustrated in the final picture. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
Overall a nice original shirt which is in good wearable condition and has a nice period label.
