About this item
An original British Army Officer's Shirt which was made by 'Van Heusen' during the Second World War.
This shirt bears the label used during WW2 which dates it to being a wartime example. It is made from a green poplin cotton as was commonly favoured by British Officers during this period and features a fully buttoning front which was a style that started to be seen during WW2, replacing the earlier half-placket style shirts. The shirt features a simple barrel cuff and a neckband style collar which is made from the same material as the body of the shirt. This is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can be worn without. The shirt comes with its original matching collar which also bears the Van Heusen brand name and the size of 14 1/2.
The original label is present inside the shirt and bears typical period graphics. It bears the title of 'Van Heusen Service Shirt' as well as the maker's name of Harding, Tilton & Hartley Ltd'. As well as this the collar size is stamped to the inside of the neckband and reads '14'.
The shirt will suit someone of around a 36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21 1/4"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 24 1/4"
Shoulders - 16 1/4"
Length at back - 35"
Collar - 14"
The shirt is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. There are some marks and limited staining etc but overall the shirt displays nicely and has plenty of wear left in it. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original WW2 officers shirt with a great label which is so typical of the period. Ideal for both the collector and re-enactor alike!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
