About this item
An original British Army officer's private purchase khaki drill shirt dating from the 1940s which is a hard to find large size.
This shirt is a private purchase example which is typical of those bought by officers during the Second World War whilst stationed overseas. The shirt is a full button front design which was gaining popularity in the 1940s, replacing the earlier half placket style. The shirt is made from a khaki coloured cotton 'aertex' material and it features two patch pockets to the chest, epaulettes at the shoulders and a spearpoint shaped collar - again typical of shirts from this era. All of the buttons are all typical of wartime theatre made items.
The shirt is a large size which will suit up to a 44" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 25 1/2"
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at back - 36 1/2"
Collar - 17"
The shirt is in worn condition with signs of age and use. Overall it displays well and looks to be wearable but does have a hole next to one of the buttonholes and a tear towards the skirt, both of which are illustrated in the pictures and reflected in the price. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have some small flaws commensurate with age.
A good original WW2 period shirt in a hard to find large size.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
