Original WW2 British Army Officer's Collarless Shirt by 'Viyella'

An original British Army Officer's Shirt dating from the 1940s which was made by 'Viyella'.

This shirt is made from a green coloured wool which was a popular choice for British officers during the 1930s and 1940s. The shirt is typical of those worn in the first half of the 20th Century in the UK having a half-placket front which was common until full button front shirts gained popularity in the 1950s. The shirt features a neckband collar to which a detachable collar can be fitted. 

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It features the classic 'Viyella Day & Night Wear' graphics which are often encountered on WW2 British officer's shirts. The original owner has also added his name in ink to the inside of the collar which reads 'REED'. 

The shirt is a small size which will suit someone of around a 34" chest, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 14 1/2"
Length at back - 34"
Collar - 14"

The shirt is in good condition with signs of wear and use. Overall it displays very well and looks to still be very wearable with no serious flaws or damage. The wool has worn into a 'bobbly' finish in places as illustrated in the pictures. Please study these before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

All in all a nice original WW2 British Army officers wool shirt with a great label.
