1909 Silver Domestic Science Prize Cardiff & Coke Co Gas Light Badge

For sale is a Beautiful Antique Silver Hallmarked Birmingham 1909 & Enamel Domestic Science Prize Cardiff & Coke Co Gas Light Badge. This is a very rare badge in which it’s in excellent condition, the silver hallmarks are for Birmingham 1909 William James Dingley. The front of the medal states “Ich Dien, Domestic Science Price, Cardiff & Coke co Gas Light” and the back is engraved “Crouch Cardiff Awarded to Winfred Phillips” followed by the silver hallmarks.    Cardiff Gas Light and Coke Co was founded in 1837 with its plant and offices in Bute Terrace/ Whitmore Lane. A gas works was opened in Grangetown in 1863, and the Bute Terrace offices were rebuilt in 1895-1896. By the 1930s the employment of Lady Demonstrators in the gas industry was well established.   The Gas Light and Coke Company (also known as the Westminster Gas Light and Coke Company, and the Chartered Gas Light and Coke Company), was a company that made and supplied coal gas and coke. The headquarters of the company were located on Horseferry Road in Westminster, London. It is identified as the original company from which British Gas plc is descended.   This will be sent.
