About this item
Correctly named 052545 RVJ Clark NA1 RN
Radfan clasp.
The NA1 denotes service as a Naval Airman class 1 with the Fleet Air Arm.
The clasp was awarded for service personnel who served for at least 14 days between 25 April and 31 July 1964 in the campaign in the Radfan Mountains, mounted with South Arabia Federation troops against the Egyptian/Yemeni backed Radfan tribesmen.
Those taking part included a brigade size army force, members of 815 Naval Air Squadron, sailors on HMS Centaur, and RAF aircrew. In 1967 eligibility was widened to include those who served in a supporting role in Aden.
HMS Centaur
During May 1964 HMS Centaur was ordered to return to the Indian Ocean to provide further support in Aden, where the Radfan rebellion was escalating into a major conflict. Her Wessex helicopters were used to replace RAF Belvedere's suffering from engine failures.
During the summer her Sea Vixens undertook air strikes against the rebel forces in Radfan, helping to bring the campaign to a successful conclusion.
The medal has an original silk ribbon.
