About this item
Correctly named 33870 Pte R Larkins 2Bn Som LI
Richard firstly enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment and was based in Curragh, Ireland when he was sent to France on the 15th of September 1914 earning his 14 Star Trio.
We see from his MIC that he is not entitled to a clasp for his 14 Star so we can assume he did not venture to meet his battalion who were in St Quentin at that time. The 2nd Bn saw action at Le Cateau, the Retreat from Mons, Marne, Aisne, La Bassee and Givenchy in 1914.
Richard is seen to transfer to the 2nd Bn Somerset Light Infantry with the service number 33870. The 2nd Bn Somerset Light Infantry were in Quetta, India in August 1914 and stayed in India for the whole of WWI as part of 4th (Quetta) Division. Transferred to 1st (Peshawar) Division in December 1917.
The medal was issued for service between 6th May and 30th September 1919 in the 3rd Afghan War.
