    About this item

Correctly named 4027 Pte B Rice Linc R

He also served in the Lincolnshire Regiment with the service number 241099.

Bernard was born in April 1897 to William and Annie. We find the family living at 81 Ripon Street in Grimsby in 1911.

He enlisted into the 2/4Bn Lincolnshire Regiment first in May 1915 but went overseas to France with the 3/5Bn in October 1915.

In January 1916 they headed to Egypt from but returned to France immediately.

We see he was wounded by gunshot (fleshwound) whilst with the 5Bn in June 1917 and was again wounded later the same year in December whilst with the 2/4Bn.

In March 1918, he is with 'A' company of the 5Bn and with them, again, he is wounded by gunshot. This time in the abdomen.

He is discharged from service and the address given for him at that time is 114 Annesley Street, Grimsby.

Sadly missing the British War Medal to complete his trio.

The pair have original silk ribbons.
