    About this item

For sale is a Rare pair of Vintage 1937 Coronation Empire Specials John Wilson’s Ice Skating Blades In Original Box Accompanied by the ice skate boot screws. These ice skate blades are in good condition and have never been used, unfortunately there is some surface rust but these can be restored. These are also marked 25cm which would be the boot size. These empire specials were only made for the year of the 1937 coronation.

Toolmaker John Wilson started his business in 1696. The John Wilson company has also made skates for the Royal Court, among others. Already King William III of England (1650 - 1702, also Stadholder Willem the III of the Netherlands) already ordered skates from John Wilson. In 1841, Queen Victoria also did the same for herself and her husband Prince Albert.   In 1895, John Wilson bought the company Marsden Brothers where skates were also made.   1898 bought H. J. and R. Haynes the combined companies of John Wilson and Marsden Brothers and Co.   Now more than 300 years later, the firm John Wilson still makes and innovates skating rons.   Engineers Hattersley & Davidson (founded in 1894) bought the firm John Wilson in the early 20th century. In 1997, a merger with Mitchel & King (MK) took place and the company name was changed to HD Sports. In 2014, HD Sports was bought up by a US-based private investment group from Boston. This new owner plans to keep production, research and development in Sheffield.   The coronation of George VI and his wife, Elizabeth, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth, Emperor and Empress consort of India took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Wednesday 12 May 1937. George VI ascended the throne upon the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII, on 11 December 1936, three days before his 41st birthday. Edward's coronation had been planned for 12 May and it was decided to continue with his brother and sister-in-law's coronation on the same date.   These are exceptionally rare to come with there original box and screws and would make an excellent addition to an ice skating collector.    These will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
