About this item
WW2 RAF 41 PATTERN MAE WEST INFLATION BLADDER. Original inflation bladder for the 41 pattern Mae West life preserver.
A good example of the 41 pattern Mae West inflation bladder. Firstly the bladder does have very small areas of crisping, just where the rubber has aged and hardened. However, it must be said it is not the whole of the bladder that has gone hard. The main areas of hardening are around the lower left lobe. The rest of the bladder is still soft and malleable, it was removed from a Mae West so it will easily go back into one. A small split is visible near the right side neck area, only half a cm or so, this should be fine if left alone. The inflation tube is nice, however, still flexible and would fit into a Mae West easily. Complete with the original mouthpiece. The bladder is fully marked with copious ink stamps and inspection marks, marked with a broad arrow, stores reference number 22C/72, dated 2-45. With inspection dates up to 1950. Overall a good displayable bladder, ideal for completing a Mae West Life preserver, RAF collection, display, or museum.
