    About this item

    Iron hilt of flattened bars, the obverse with 4 concentric rings increasing in size toward the
    pommel, the largest ring with sweeping bar connected to the knuckle bow; chiseled in low
    relief with flowers and acanthus on a stippled background.  Reverse with four round-section
    bars attached to the smallest ring and connecting with the knuckle bow.  Knuckle bow with
    circular terminal featuring silver-inlaid floral decoration.  Straight quillons expanding toward
    the finials and featuring silver-inlaid floral details (worn).  Grip of spiral shape wrapped with
    twisted wire and finished with Turks heads top and bottom.  Pommel with small button,
    chiseled to match the guard.  Hexagonal-section 46 3/4" blade with 9" central line-bordered
    fuller stamped “M (O) M (O) M (O) M (O)” on each side with anchor mark at its end.  Large
    proportions and lovely workmanship.  Metal cleaned with very light pitting on the blade.
