A good 1788 Light Cavalry Officers Sword By Gill.
The canted stirrup hilted guard with twin langets, smooth backpiece with pointed pommel cap have an even patina, the leather bound grip is solid, the covering possibly replaced, albeit very well done.
The 32.5 inch blade with single central fuller running the length of the blades, as well as a narrow spine fuller measuring 24 inches. Elements of the engraved decoration still visible, including "Gill's Warranted" makers mark, floral sprays, and what appears to be a crown or cornet with initials below it, opening an avenue for possible research into the original owner, The blade is polished bright, and shows signs of service sharpening, with some scattered old edge nicks/contact marks, and some light staining.
