About this item
1788 Light Cavalry Officers Sword By Gill.
A rather neglected example, which will make an excellent project for somebody.
The stirrup hilted D guard with twin langets has an even salt and pepper pitting, and some light active rust, the cord bound grip which would have originally been bound with leather. Smooth backpiece with pointed pommel cap.
The 34 inch blade with traces of decoration still visible, the "Gill's Warranted" makers mark, floral sprays, and what appears to be a crown or cornet with initials below it. The blade has been polished and shows signs of service sharpening, and old edge nicks/contact marks, as well as old rust and staining.
Housed in the very tired remnants of its wooden scabbard covered in leather. It is very fragile, and likely beyond redemption.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
