About this item
Royal Navy 1827 Pattern Pipe Back Officers Sword
The hilt, of solid regulation form with full functioning folding guard with plenty of snap. Gothic decoration and cartouche with crowned, fouled anchor. Plain, faceted backstrap with finely executed lions head pommel. Ropework ferrule with loop, and retaining the original sword knot. The grip bound in white rayskin, and bound with twistwire, in good order. The blade solid in the hilt.
The 29 inch pipe back blade has been cleaned bright, one side retaining its etching, the other is only visible at the riccaso. The word "Warranted" in a scrolling banner, another banner which may once have contained the orignal owners name, now worn, but beginning with "M". A well executed lion, royal coat of arms, and crown can all be seen clearly. Terminating in an impressive quill point. Some old pitting is visible, along with some edge nicks, but presents well.
Housed in its brass mounted leather scabbard. The top mount with locking pin for the folding guard, and with the shield of "Wilkinson, Gun & Sword maker, Pall Mall London.
A nice early Wilkinson sword, with the bonus of retaining a scabbard which is both intact, and unbroken.
