About this item
A very fine 1831 Pattern General Officers Mameluke Sword.
This exceptional example, was produced and retailed by Henry Wikinson, Pall Mall, London" which allows a precise manufacture date of October 1905.
The regulation gilt brass hilt, with slab ivory grip scales, fixed with rosettes. The crossguard, bearing the general officers badge, mounted within a wreath, and terminating with ball finials. Fitted with its original and correct general officers sword knot in gold and crimson.
***Please note, Due to the composition of the hilt, this sword cannot be shipped outside of the UK.***
The curved single-edged blade measuring 31.5 inches, culminating in a double edged yelman towards the point. The finely etched blade bearing the makers name and address at the ricasso, and bearing his initials in of "H.W" within the hexagonal (best) proof slug. The foliate etching, including swags of laurel, crowned 'ERVII' cypher and crossed sword and baton motif. No movement between blade and hilt.
Housed in it's original plated all steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.
Some minor staining and rubbing to the blade which could be improved, and likely removed altogether if desired. The ivory grip with some minor scratches, one more noticeable due to dirt, a small area of repair, and sime light bruises consurmerate with carry/use. The scabbard is generally bright and clean, with some light marks, and a dent to one side of the scabbard towards the drag.
Probably the finest 1831 Pattern I have owned, and you will be looking for a long time to find a better example.
***Please note, Due to the composition of the hilt, this sword cannot be shipped outside of the UK.***
