A good British 1845 Pattern Royal Navy Cutlass.
Black painted sheet steel bowl guard and ribbed iron grip in good condition.
The slightly curved, unfullered, blade measures almost 27 inches, bearing various inspection markings to both ricasso's, and is dated (18)88. There is a faint makers marking on the spine, partically obscured, but possibly "Heighington". The blade has been service sharpened.
This example bearing a brass elongated diamond plaque to the front of the bowl guard, bearing the rack number.
