About this item
A very fine 1854 pattern infantry officers sword, with solid guard, in good condition and without damage or buckling. Original gold and maroon sword knot in place. All shagreen intact complete with twist wire binding.
The sword maker marked for "Firmin&Sons 153 Strand&13 Conduit Street, London" on the left hand ricasso. Standard floral etching with crowned VR cypher. The words "Canada Militia" with a beaver betwixt.
32.5 inch blade is very clean with only minor blemishes, and retaining a large proportion of original finish. Centre of Percussion marking to the blades spine.
Brass scabbard for officers of field rank and above. A banded repair to the brass two thirds of the way down. Neatly done and likely contemporary. Scabbard is straight and sword sheaths cleanly.
