About this item
1900 Pattern Royal Navy Cutlass.
The last British production cutlass which saw service through WW1 and was still being carried by some ships at the start of WW2.
Black painted sheet steel bowl guard with chequered leather grip in good condition, with a crowned inspection mark to one side.
The straight blade with short central fuller measures 28 inches. It was produced at Enfield and dated (19)'02 and bearing various inspection markings to both ricasso's, along with the pattern date (19)'00 to the spine. The ricasso area is a little rubbed, either by contact with the top mount of the scabbard, or having been previously polished, but all the markings are clear and legible.
The blade has signs of having been service sharpened during its working life at the point, back edge, and 10 inches up the cutting edge. The blade is in remarkably good condition, retaining lots of original polish.
Housed in the original leather covered, iron mounted scabbard. Some pittimg to both mounts, and stamped markings to the rear of the leather scabbard.
