1st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers Officers Sword

An 1827 pattern Rifle Officers Sword regimentally etched to the 1st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers.

This example carries the initials "C.C." indicating it was for an officer in the Cadet Corps of Glasgow High School, who were affiliated with the Lankarkshire RVC post 1902. In 1908 the whole force became the volunteer battalion of the Cameronians, and it is likely that the original owner served with them during the First World War.

The initials "J.L.S. are likely for John Livingston Scott. He is listed as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1910 Army List. Further research I shall leave to the new owner.

The sword istself is untouched, the 1827 Rifle officers hilt of gothic form with strung bugle within a cartouche. Shagreen grip bound with twistwire in good condition, chequered backstrap. The hilt is grubby and has some light rust.

32.5 inch single fullered blade with the original owners initials within a carotuche. Brightly etched regimental dedication to the 1st Lanarkshire Rifles. Retailers marking of  "Hobson and Sons, Lexington Street, London" to the ricasso, with proof slug to the other although this would indicate that the sword itself was likely made by Pillin. Some light rust and staining.

Housed in its brown leather field service scabbard. Some light scuffs but generally very good. 

The whole sword would benefit from some light cleaning, to bring it up to collectors standard.
