A Unique Gordon Highlanders Officers Sword

A very scarce and likely unique Gordon Highlanders Officers Sword, fitted with RAMC hilt for the regimental surgeon.

Regulation brass RAMC guard of 1822 pattern with crowned ERVII cypher with fully chequered backpiece. No deformation or serious issues. Old polish in sheltered areas, some original gilt finish to the interior of the guard. The shagreen grip is in good condition and complete, and retaining the brass twistwire binding.

The double fullered broadsword blade with a length of  32.75 inches. Retailed by "Hobson&Sons. 1,3&5 Lexington St, London" who operated at this address as a military tailor/outfitter. It would appear to be produced by Pillin, judging by the "P" proof slug.

The fully etched blade regimentally marked to "The Gordon Highlanders" with Sphynx above battle honour "Egypt" and Lion above battle honour "India". The other side features the Royal coat of arms, thistle etching, and Royal crown. There is no royal cypher, as is common on Scottish swords. The crowns featured appear to be Victorian in style, which may well mean this blade is late Victorian, and rehilted once Edward VII was crowned.

Housed in an attractive brown leather field service scabbard. 

Overall condition is good, some light staining to the blade, which could be improved if desired, but generally excellent untouched condition.

A likely unique sword, which should be easy to attribute.
