About this item
A very good crimean period Victorian Infantry Officers Sword.
This example retailed by "Joel Edwards&Sons Hanover St" and marked as such at the ricasso. They were based in Hanover Street from 1838. and I would date this example to the early/mid 1850's.
Hilt of brass with VR cypher. No deformation to speak of. Working folding guard. Shagreen grips complete and in good condition, and bound with copper wire. Small movement between blade and hilt, easily fixed with a replacement leather washer.
32 inch blade etched with standard floral engraving, and crowned VR cypher. Bearing the original owners initials of "W.H.C" below a family crest and latin motto of "Virtus Et Industria"
Housed in a brass scabbard for officers of field rank and above. Twin hanging rings, with one "pinch" towards the centre, but no splits.
A very good example, and worthy of further research.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
