Cheshire Yeomanry Officers Sword

An 1821 pattern light cavalry officers sword by Wilkinson, dating to 1887.

This sword has had the hilt silver plated, likely shortly after purchase. The hilt is bright with some areas of pitting, where the plating has bubbled. Chequered pommel with similarly plated button. The grip retains all its twistwire, and the shagreen is generally very good and largely complete with some service wear, the ferrule slightly loose.

The 34.5 inch 1845 pattern blade is mostly bright, having been polished during its working life. Most of the etching is clearly visible. The right hand side bears a family coat of arms, and "Cheshire Yeomanry" within a scroll. No signs of aggressive sharpening, some areas of light pitting and staining.

Housed in its original early field service leather scabbard, with steel throat and drag. With later Great War period sword frog. Both in good sound condition, and would benefit from a feed and polish.

An interesting sword, in good, untouched condition, with avenues for further research into the original owner, and named to a rarely seen yeomanry unit.
