    About this item

An interesting Edwardian 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword, regimentally marked to the South Nigeria Volunteers.

The blade, retailed by Hobson&Sons of Lexington Street, London, is also marked with the name A.A.Hadley.

A quick glance shows that Alfred Archibald Hadley went on to be a Captain in WW1, serving with the 4th Nigeria Regiment.

Great research opporunity for the new owner.

Of standard 1897 pattern, there looks to have been an old repair to the pommel, the nut being replaced with a brass finial. Likely a local repair, possibly from when the 4th were fighting in East Africa. Sword and hilt are tight, with no movement.

The guard and shagreen grip are in very good condition. The guard retains much of its original plating. ERVII cypher to the front of the guard. Blade with etched panels and retailers markings as decribed above. The usual royal cypher and floral decoration.

A nice clean sword, overall, housed in its field service brown leather scabbard. Some loss towards the drag, which could be carefully repaired.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
