French 1833 Pattern Naval Cutlass

Or, as it is known in France, Le M1833 Sabre d'Abordage.

Heavy, bulbous steel guard, retaining its black paint, the cord bound grip solid, but the binding now coming loose.

The single fullered blade measuring 26.75 inches. Arsenal details to the spine now hard to interpret, poincon markings at the ricasso. The blade mainly bright, with light staining. Signs of light service sharpening. No movement between blade and hilt.

Housed in its original leather scabbard with polished brass mounts.

A good, solid example, in need of a gentle clean and tidy.
