About this item
This stunning sabre is in very good fine condition with good blue and gilt etching a truly great and rare example of a sabre d’Officier de Cavalerie ou de Chasseur.
Made by Schimmelbusch of Solingen before 1813, probably in 1810. Solingen is in Prussia and were allies of Napoleon up until 1812. Schimmelsbusch had a great reputation in making quality officer swords and were much in demand with the provenance stamped on the blade. There is a tiny bit of stray twisted wire under the pommel which does not detract from the beauty of this very rare and hard to find sabre. Highly likely a war trophy as it was discovered in England only a few years ago. Complete with scabbard, also in very fine condition.
The blade, a little over 34 inches is in very good condition, the sabre draws well and is incredibly evocative to hold.
These Chasseur de Cheval lightning cavalry troops were the eyes and ears of Napoleon’s army, brave, deadly and fearless. Very similar in deployment as Wellington’s Light Dragoons. This sabre is being offered from my private collection.
