About this item
A scarce George V Royal Corps of Signals Officers Sword.
Likely one of the first examples produced, once King George V conferred the title of "Royal" upon the corps in 1920.
The regulation 1897 pattern hilt with crowned GVR cypher. Chequered backpiece, shagreen grip free from loss and only light service wear. This bound with twistwire, with some stands now slightly loose. The hilt generally clean, with some light areas of loss and staining to the plated finish.
The single fullered 32.5 inch blade with one vacant ricasso, and brass proof slug to the other. The blade fully etched with the vacant panels, and "Royal Corps of Signals", along with the Corps insignia of Mercury. Alongside the standard floral engraving is the royal coat of arms, and crowned GVR cypher. The blade is generally very good, clean and retaining a fair amount of the original polish with only light staining.
Housed in its original brown leather field service scabbard in very good order. This in turn is stored inside its original outer carry bag, which is missing its cover.
Overall a very good and clean example of a Corps variation which isn't easy to find.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
