About this item
A huge Indian Cavalry Troopers sword in the"Paget" style with a German made 1796 style blade.
I've never encountered one of these swords with such an imposing blade before, nor have I ever seen a German contract blade used previously.
Measuring 32.5 inches in length, and very nearly two inches wide at the ricasso. It is marked at the Ricasso "P. Knecht" to and "Solingen" to the other. It also carries British military crowned inspection markings, ala 1796 patterns, as well as two "dot" punch hardness markings, found commonly on Indian arsenal made blades, including late 19th and early 20thC kukris.
My sources show P.Knecht" became P.Knecht&Co after 1850, so it is possible this sword dates between 1825/50 although my records aren't complete.
This huge example with steel three bar 1821 pattern type guard, smooth backstrap and pommel, with leather grip bound with copper wire. The guard above the quillion bears some unit/rack markings. It retains its original brown leather sword knot.
The service sharpened, single fullered 1796 Light Cavalry pattern blade measuring 32.5 inches. Some light rust, staining and pitting, but generally bright and overall a good example of this variation of a scarce pattern, which will display very well.
No scabbard present.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
