About this item
An untouched Indian Mutiny Period 1821 Cavalry Officers Sword by Wilkinson Sword.
The serial number would date this sword to 1857. Unfortunately the last digit is partially obscured, my guess is a "3", but could also be a "5" or an "8". A thorough cleaning may reveal more.
A substantial sword, in generally good solid condition overall. Regulation 1821 pattern three bar hilt, with no loss to the shagreen grip which is bound with the original silver twistwire. Chequered pommel, backstrap with chequered thumb rest. The hilt tight to the blade. Even patina to the hilt and scabbard.
The 36 inch, single fullered blade in worn condition, no original finish remaining. The blades etching still mostly visible, with crowned VR cypher. The point appears to have been slightly reprofiled during its service life, and signs of service sharpening.
Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings. Minor dings and dents, even patina between the body and the swords hilt.
Sleepy condition overall, some light rust and grime, but its not been "got at" and never previously in a collection.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
