    About this item

A good Irish Infantry officers sword, retailed by Keane & Turnbull, Grand Parade, Cork (Listed as Military Tailors and Outfitters)

This example has an 33 inch 1845 pattern infantry officers blade which has been rehilted with an 1897 pattern guard. This would indicate ownership by a career soldier, serving pre 1892, and should aid with researching the original owner.

The blade appears to be named "John Murray" in a scroll. Blade has some dark staining to one side which would improve with a clean and a polish. The etching is all visible, and of good quality. The blade is tight in the hilt.

I suspect the sword was made by the London cutler Pillin, and retailed by Keane&Turnbull. There is a serial number to the blades spine.

Housed in a brown leather field service leather scabbard which is in good condition. The sword has the benefit of its original sword knot.

A good Irish officers sword with the potential to improve with cleaning, and with the bonus of an original owner to research.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
