About this item
A good and scarce 1821 Pattern Norfolk Artillery Officers Sword.
This example was retailed by "Skinner&Co, Jermyn St, London" William Skinner began trading in Jermyn Street in 1841, before becoming "Skinner&Co" from 1871. Stylistically I would say this sword dates to pre 1880.
The 1821 pattern thee bar hilt, with stepped pommel and smooth backpiece. The grip of shagreen bound in twistwire, which is all complete, and in generally good condition, with light service wear.
A substantial single fullered 35.5 inch blade of 1845 pattern. Bearing the retailers details to one ricasso, and proof slug to the other. Well etched with floral decoration, cronwed VR cypher, and "Norfolk Artillery" sumounting feathered lightning bolts. The blade clean overall, with some minor staining, light rust and old grease. A slight curve to the blade. No movement between blade and grip.
Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.
Good untouched condition, this example being fresh to the market. The hilt and scabbard with even patina, which would now benefit from a light clean and polish. The scabbard with a small split, around an inch in length, and the usual dings/dents.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
