Scarce WW1 Welsh Guards Officers Sword

A good and scarce WW1 George V Welsh Guards Officers Sword.

The Welsh Guards were formed in February 1915, the last of the five Guards regiments to come into being. They consisted of one regular, and one reserve battalion. Consequently examples of their pattern of Guards Officers sword is the hardest to find.

The 1854 pattern Guards hilt, bearing the regimental leek badge of the Welsh Guards. Shagreen grip is complete and in good order, bound in silver twistwire, all of which remains intact. The original plating is in very good order, some slight tarnishing to the pommel, and the interior of the guard.

The blade of 1892 pattern has a 32.5 inch lnegth, which carries the original owners initials, vacant battle honours, the crowned GV cypher, and the regimental badge. It is in very good order with only minor areas of staining.

The initials "D.B.M." likely indicate Lieutenant David Bernard Morgan was the original owner. He was born in 1899, and joined the Welsh Guard in early 1918. Worthy of further research.

Housed in the correct nickel plated dress scabbard with twin hanging rings. In similar order to the rest of the sword.

In my opinion this sword, with the lightest of cleaning, could still be considered to be in "parade condition". Equally well, it would grace any sword collection, and it would be difficult if not impossible to upgrade.
