About this item
An interesting sword bearing a rather comical old collectors label describing as a "1890 Pattern Calvary (Cavalry) Warrant Officers Sword. I can find no official reference to such a pattern being adopted.
It seems more likely to date to 1895 or after, and is in fact probably an Indian Cavalry Troopers or NCO's Sword.
Indistinct inspection markings at either ricasso, one of which seems to resemble the "condemned" marking more commonly seen on firearms of the period.
Plated 1821 heavy cavalry hilt, with wire bound shagreen grip and chequered backpiece. Original leather sword knot.
34 inch single fullered plain blade.
Housed in a Sam Brown pattern field service scabbard. No movement between blade and hilt.
An interesting variation, worthy of further research.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
