    About this item

A good 1822/45 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword By Wilkinson of Pall Mall.

Serial number dates this sword to mid 1854, likely produced for an officer off to fight in the Crimean War.

Regulation 1822 pattern infantry officers hilt with VR cypher within a cartouche, some deformation, and one or two dings, but generally very good. The falling inner guard is present, and functioning, although it has lost most of its "snap". Some minor loss to the shagreen grip, which is bound with twistwire. The blade is tight in the hilt.

The 32.5 inch single fullered blade of 1845 pattern in particuarly good condition. Maker marked by "Wilkinson Sword, Pall Mall, London" to one ricasso, with thier proof marking to the other. Decorated with the usual floral etching with crowned VR cypher. The blade clean and bright, with some small areas of staining, and some light nicks to the cutting edge.

Housed in its original steel dress scabbard with twin hanging rings. An interesting old repair just below the upper hanging ring, which looks like shrapnel damage. Light and even stable patina for its entire length, with some small dings and dents. Good condition overall, and the sword is a very good fit, sheathing and unsheathing well.

Not a mint example by any means, but a good early numbered Wilkinson, which likely saw active service in either the Crimea or Indian Mutiny during the 1850's.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
