    About this item

A very scarce and desirable 1821 Pattern William IV Presentation sword to the Surrey Yeomanry.

The sword is marked at the ricasso "Moseley&Sons, London. Manufacturers to H.M. The King."

The presentation inscription reads "Presented By Captain Webster Flockton To Corporal Charles Taylor As The Best Swordsman In The Regiment - Surrey Yeomanry 8th May 1836."

The sword featured in an article by Leslie Southwick on Presentation swords, a copy of which will be included with the sword, along with some information on the Surrey Yeomanry.

The sword itself in in excellent untouched condition, the exterior hilt, guard and scabbard are a rich plum coloured patina. The grip retains all of its shagreen and silver twistwire binding.

The blade is uncommonly bright, the first name of the cutler is partially obscured due to the sword being sheathed and unsheathed, but the rest of the etching is fully legible, including the presentation inscription. Crowned William IV cypher, urns, foliage, triumphal regalia and all the usual engraving are clear.

The pipebacked blade measure a full 32.5 inches in length, and has not been shortened.

A superb and rare sword, which offers the new owner plenty of scope for further research.

    Strictly over 18's only.
