About this item
A nice example of a Hitler Youth Knife by Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen and of the period 1936-38.
The grip plates are a finely checkered Bakelite type and are in perfect condition, being retained by nickel rivets with dressed obverse heads. The enamel HJ insignia has darkened and shows some fine hairline cracking. The nickel plating to the metal fittings has now gone.
The blade of this knife is a nice example. HJ motto has now faded, the reverse of the marked with Logo of the Gottlieb firm; with the firm's name and location, “Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen”. As with these early knives there is no ricasso.
The scabbard is without damage but has been repainted. Attached to the scabbard is an excellent leather hanger but with an additional pin hole from display.
