About this item
12) An original WW1 Princess Mary Christmas fund 1914 gift tin. The tin is of brass and in good order. The bust relief, edge decoration and Christmas 1914 are all in nice clear condition but very dirty with age (see photos). It shows a few minor dents to the base. The lid opens and closes nicely. the hinge is good and the corners of the tin show no stress cracks. The inside is good with all original finish. The base is good with minor wear. It has a WW2 envelope inside and a pair of short sections of WW1 medal ribbons all of which were in this when we purchsed it. These tins were given out to members of the British & Commonwealth Forces for Christmas 1914, the tins would have contained cigarettes, tobacco, Christmas card, small photo of Princess Mary and a bullet pencil although some had different contents. A nice original tin.
