About this item
104) Lovely Original WW1 French Prisoner Of War Trench Art Alloy Cigarette Box & Armband. An interesting WW1 Hand made alloy box with intricate carving. Made by a Fre3nch soldier captured and imprisoned in a German POW camp. The lit is marked with a tram and the initials A.C. The front is marked 1914 1915 which was pressumibly the years that he had served before being taken prisoner and the initials being that of the man that carved this. The sides and the rear are nicely engraved. The base is blank. The hinged are excellent but the hinge fittings is brass wire, which is old and works fine but was probably originaly of alloy pins. The closure works well and clicks nicely shutThe in side is excellent and inside lid marked "Souvenir De Ma Captivite En Allemagne". This translates to "A Souvenir of my captivity in Germany"..This comes withn an improvised white armband with now faint letter "P". Not sure what this stands for but original to the tin. The armband is made from a shirt cuff. The box measures 4 inches X 3 1/4 inches X 1 inch deep.
