Deadstock Original 1955 Dated British Denim Battledress Trousers - Size 7

An original pair of British Army Denim Battledress Trousers dated 1955 which are in excellent, unworn condition.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforized cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the manufacturer's name as 'Mourne Clothing Co Ltd', the date of 1955 and the size as 7. The War Department broad arrow marking is also present as are the various details pertaining to size. Adjacent to the label is the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O'.

Waist - 18 1/2"
Rise - 18"
Rear rise - 19 1/2"
Inside leg - 34"
Outside leg - 49 1/2"   
Cuff - 10 1/4"

It is important to remember that the trousers are designed as over-trousers and are cut in a large, oversize manner. For an authentic fit they need to be worn with plenty of extra room in the waist and seat. 

The trousers are in very good condition with only no signs of wear or washing. They could be described as 'deadstock' or 'unworn'. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
