    About this item

An original pair of British military Khaki Drill Shorts which were made by 'Bernard Weatherill' during the 1940s.

This pattern of shorts and trousers was introduced into service with the British military in 1944 and saw issue during the latter part of the Second World War. This pattern stayed in service well into the 1960s with the most prolific pattern being the 1950 pattern. This style of shorts with the cross belt waist fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha shorts'.

This particular pair of shorts were made by 'Bernard Weatherill Ltd' meaning they were a privately prucahsed item, most likely bought by an officer.  The shorts are made from a khaki coloured cotton drill material which is typical of the period. The fly fastens with green coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons and the waist belts fasten with metal single pronged buckles. The shorts feature a twin pleated front, slash pockets at the hips and no rear pockets.

Inside the shorts still retain their original maker's label. It bears the manufacturer's name of 'Bernard Weatherill Ltd' to the top below which is the street address. The original owners name has been add in ink as A. C. Mackenzie and the 1940s date is also present.

The shorts will suit someone of around a 28" waist and when laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 14 1/4"
    Rise - 13 1/4"
    Rear rise - 16 1/2"
    Inside leg - 7 1/4"
    Outside leg - 19"
    Cuff - 13"

The shorts are in good condition for their age but do show signs of wear and use. They are still very wearable but there is some staining etc. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A good original pair of WW2 period KD shorts with a great label.
