    About this item

An original pair of British Army Battledress Trousers dating from the Second World War which are in good condition.

This pattern of trousers came into service with the British Army in 1938 replacing the earlier Service Dress uniform. This particular pair have had the First Field Dressing pocket and the map pocket removed from the front of the trousers. This was common practice in the latter part of 1944 and 1945 for 'walking out' uniforms - the uniform worn when on leave or similar. Many soldiers decided to remove these pockets as it was deemed to look smarter.

Due to the removal of the pockets it is impossible to determine if they were originally the first or second pattern version. There are clearly original early war battledress trousers however which would have been labeled as 'Battledress, Serge' or '1940 pattern'. Inside the trousers the original label is no longer present but there is a War Department acceptance stamp. There is no letter code to date the trousers from but this style of stamp is usually only found in early manufactured battledress.

The trousers will suit a 32" waist and when laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 16"
    Inside leg - 33"

The trousers are in well used condition with signs of wear and age. There is a large hole to the crotch as illustrated in the pictures and some of the brace buttons have been replaced with mis-matching buttons including 'Bulldog' brand which are often found on original WW2 used battledress trousers. They display well enough but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A well used pair which are priced to reflect the condition.
